Art Workshops & Courses
Workshops are held in Janie’s garden studio and at various outside venues.
The garden studio is situated in an acre of landscaped gardens and has stunning views over the surrounding countryside. More often than not flowers, berries and leaves are chosen from the garden to use as subjects to draw.
Lunches comprise of sandwiches and/or salads during the summer months with more hearty soups or casseroles during the winter. Coffee, tea, biscuits and cake are available throughout the day. Artwork and teaching obviously come first but every attempt is made to make the occasion an enjoyable one.
Students are advised to bring their own equipment but brushes, paints and coloured pencils can be borrowed from Janie at a small extra charge. Paper and a small selection of other equipment is available to purchase.

If transport is difficult for you we can pick you up from either Colchester or Ipswich Railway Station. (There will be a small charge for this service).

Studio Workshops
Studio Workshops are not generally attributed to just one aspect of drawing or painting as their ‘one to one’ nature (no more than 3/4 people at any one time) means that each artist can concentrate on whatever subject they please. However there are occasional special workshops and they are listed below.
Workshops are arranged so that beginners and the less experienced attend on different days.
Studio Workshops in Coloured Pencil or Watercolour - generally held on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Janie demonstrates the techniques used to create her exquisitely drawn and vibrantly coloured pieces of floral and botanical art.

Want to bring someone with you?
In the immediate area there are masses of things for your husband/wife/partner to do whilst you are busy painting and drawing.
Golfing: we can arrange a game for you at the local course, just five minutes away.
Fishing: fly fishing and course fishing are available locally.
Sailing: the East Coast has some of the finest sailing in the country.
Shopping: the two local towns of Colchester and Ipswich, both interesting in their own right, have a large selection of top quality shops, stores and places of interest.
Sightseeing
You could also visit some of the following together, either before or after your workshop.
Art Galleries: The Munnings museum is in nearby Dedham, the Gainsborough Museum can be found in Sudbury and there are countless other commercial art galleries.
Towns to visit: Colchester (England’s oldest recorded town with its castle keep and walls of Roman origin) - Dedham village (the heart of the Dedham Vale) where you can hire a boat and row up the river Stour to Flatford Mill where John Constable painted so many famous scenes - the towns of Lavenham, Hadleigh, Kersey and Long Melford are all crammed full of stunningly beautiful houses and churches as well as a plethora of antique shops.
Historic Houses and Halls: East Anglia was, during the halcyon days of the wool trade, the wealthiest part of England for some 300 years so we have many beautiful historic houses and halls that are open to the public. Kentwell Hall in Long Melford and Helmingham Hall at Helmingham are just two worth a visit.
Gardens: There are many superb gardens of interest to visit including the Beth Chatto Gardens just outside of Colchester, East Bergholt Place Gardens and, at the right time of the year, the breathtakingly beautiful and perfumed rose fields of the nationally famous Cant’s Roses. We are also only a short drive away from the RHS gardens at Hyde Hall near Chelmsford.
Visiting the East Coast: Going a little further afield there are the delightful East Coast villages and towns of Pin Mill, Woodbridge, Orfordness, Southwold, Aldeburgh and the incredible Viking hoard at Sutton Hoo - or you can just laze the day away relaxing in our own garden or house.
Partners not taking part in the workshops but who wish to take advantage of the overnight accommodation including evening meal and breakfast will be charged £50 per night.
